Kaohsiung’s Yanping District is a must-visit area for many young travelers and backpackers. Popular filming locations from the series “Black & White” — including the Love River, Pier-2 Art Center, the Southern Police Precinct, and seaside bars — are all highly popular local attractions. However, recently some backpackers noticed that on their way to Pier-2 Art Center at night, passing through the intersection of Park Road and Lainan Street, the 63-year-old Yanping Christian Presbyterian Church is illuminated with bright, festive Christmas lights, prompting many tourists to stop and take pictures. Wang Peizhu and Chen Shiqing, office workers from Taipei, took a three-day, two-night trip to Kaohsiung during their vacation. They planned their itinerary via blogs and made a special trip to Yanping Church for photos. Wang Peizhu said that solemn yet beautiful churches are rare to see in Taiwan, and the fact that this one is located near Pier-2 Art Center makes it a perfect spot for photography.

Reverend Xia Wenxue of Yanping Christian Presbyterian Church stated that the church building has a rather unique exterior. To celebrate Christmas, the church has been decorated with lights since December, which unexpectedly turned into a new photo hotspot for visitors, attracting many people every evening. The church's nighttime lighting is turned on daily from 5:10 PM to 11:00 PM. In celebration of the church’s 90th anniversary, the lights will remain on until the end of February next year.
