This café, located near Fu Jen University and open for less than three months,“Gongyu Café”was designed with an industrial style by its owner, whose family works in the construction industry and who personally loves rugged, vintage aesthetics. Materials such as construction site metal sheets, oil drums, water pipes, and cable reels were creatively repurposed by the owner into unique interior elements, resulting in a one-of-a-kind industrial café.

▲The owner used metal sheets as walls and cut cable reels into tables, creating a uniquely industrial design.
“Because the café follows an industrial theme and is tucked away inside an apartment building, we named it Gongyu (which means ‘work residence’),” said the 26-year-old young owner,Gongtou (Foreman),who started working in society at the age of 18, gaining experience in the food and beverage and real estate industries. Though he didn’t graduate with a degree in culinary arts, he teamed up with a friend in the F&B business six months ago to open this shop. That’s when he began learning about coffee—from knowing very little, to spending five months researching, constantly seeking external knowledge and technical guidance, and now crafting beautifully latte-arted cups for customers.

▲Using water pipes directly as design elements is a common feature in the café.
Gongtou visited many cafés to observe and learn, incorporating useful elements into his own space—for example, the readily available power outlets and backpack hooks reflect the thoughtful detail behind his larger-than-life appearance. Gongtou mentioned that the café aims to create a casual, relaxing atmosphere, and its second-floor location allows people to gaze out the transparent windows and unwind for an entire afternoon.
