The upcoming 2013 New Taipei City Gongliao International Ocean Music Festival has teamed up with local travel agencies to offer this summer’s most sustainable “Summer Cycling Adventure: Cycling Madness at the Ocean Festival” and the most ocean-inspired “Whale Watching Ocean Festival One-Day Tour.” In line with the spirit of the ocean festival, these experiences encourage participants to cycle all the way to the event, embrace the rock music with courage, and soak in the forested landscapes and ocean views while riding with enthusiasm to the festival.

The “Summer Cycling Adventure: Cycling Madness at the Ocean Festival” package allows participants to bring their own bicycles or rent one from the tour operator upon registration. The journey begins with a bike ride from the Taipei Zoo Muzha Branch along Provincial Highway 106B. Along the way, you’ll witness the transition from the bustling urban scenery to lush forested landscapes. Cycle through the areas of Jing Tong and Pingxi Old Streets, immersing yourself in the traditional charm of Taiwan. As you enjoy the scenic ride, you’ll eventually reach the vicinity of Fulong Railway Station, where your bike can be loaded onto a designated shuttle bus. Then, get ready to immerse yourself in the creative energy of independent bands at the ocean festival. Throughout the trip, Lion Travel will provide support vehicles stocked with snacks and water to keep your energy up, ensuring you don’t have to worry about running out of stamina during the leisurely bike ride.

Pingxi Old Street is a great place along the railway line where you can truly feel the atmosphere of a traditional 1950s town. The street still retains some Japanese-era wooden buildings, with long shopfronts packed into the narrow road. Traditional grocery stores, snack shops, and more are scattered throughout. The “Whale Watching Ocean Festival One-Day Tour” is designed around the concept of connecting with nature and the ocean. Participants are invited to take a scenic cruise around Turtle Island off the coast of Yilan to go whale and dolphin watching. Not only can you admire these magnificent marine creatures gliding through the waters, but you’ll also get to observe the rich natural ecology surrounding the island. Facing the vast ocean, all your worries will momentarily fade away. After the whale watching cruise, continue the maritime theme with a delicious lunch at Wushi Port in Yilan, known for its iconic seafood cuisine. Once well-fed, head to the ocean festival with renewed energy to cheer for your favorite bands or optionally rent a bike to explore the nostalgic Old Caoling Tunnel.

The two package tours for the 2013 Ocean Festival — “Summer Cycling Adventure: Cycling Madness at the Ocean Festival” and “Whale Watching Ocean Festival One-Day Tour” — let you set out happily, enjoy a full day of fun, and fully unleash your passion and energy. At the end of the day, you can relax on the shuttle bus instead of squeezing into public transport with other travelers. The package deals are available at a special price of just NT$1,499. The “Summer Cycling Adventure: Cycling Madness at the Ocean Festival” requires a minimum of 16 participants to depart, while the “Whale Watching Ocean Festival One-Day Tour” requires at least 30 participants to set off for the festival.
