The mysterious blue underwater world has always been a source of fascination. This spring, Copenhagen, Denmark, unveiled The Blue Planet aquarium, featuring a massive spiral design that uses minimalist style to recreate the rhythm of ocean waves, making visitors feel as though they are truly being pulled into the underwater realm for a magnificent adventure.

Viewed from above, The Blue Planet resembles a massive whirlpool emerging from the seabed, perfectly echoing the aquarium’s theme. Its unique architectural form blends seamlessly with the surrounding marine environment, and it is currently the largest aquarium in Europe. Located just north of the Kastrup harbor and near the Øresund Strait, it is only a few hundred meters from Copenhagen Airport, offering convenient access for travelers from around the world.

Designed by the architecture firm 3XN, the aquarium draws inspiration from the imagery of flowing water. Its smooth, curved exterior is formed by assembling small diamond-shaped aluminum panels, resembling a beautiful ribbon or ever-shifting sand dunes in the desert. The silver-gray aluminum panels reflect the sky’s vibrant clouds and enchanting light from various angles, offering a new surprise at every glance. Inside, the aquarium is home to nearly 20,000 species of fish and marine life, spanning tropical to polar regions, and freshwater to saltwater environments. It also features a circular underwater tunnel, allowing visitors to get up close to a dazzling array of uniquely shaped fish and large sharks as they swim by, creating the sensation of being in an underwater amusement park that is utterly captivating.
