The recently popular Jimmy Liao Theme Square has become a new must-visit attraction in the Yilan area. Surely many netizens are planning to make a pilgrimage there this summer vacation, right? Before you set off, why not browse today’s recommended one-day itinerary to see what other amazing spots you can string together for an exciting day trip, besides the long-awaited Jimmy Liao Square — so you can enjoy the leisurely beauty of the Lanyang Plain in just one day.

Route: Wufengqi Waterfall → Jimmy Liao Theme Square → King Car Whisky Distillery → Dajin Leisure Agriculture Area → Luodong Night Market

Wufengqi Waterfall

Known as the Spa Town, Jiaoxi Township is not only a great place for hot spring bathing, but the spring water here is also used to grow hot spring vegetables and serve as a scenic waterfall destination. Located at the foot of the mountain, Wufengqi Waterfall is a landscape waterfall divided into three tiers along the mountain slope. The upper tier cascades down from the canyon with tremendous force, and there are several small pools where visitors can play in the water. The middle tier flows out from the mountainside, with an observation pavilion nearby offering an excellent view of the emerald-green valley — it’s the most frequented spot by tourists. The lower tier naturally forms a small pool due to the terrain, with crystal-clear water, making it a rare sight of mountain spring water.

Jimmy Liao Theme Square (Jimmy Liao Park)

The boy and girl protagonists of “Turn Left, Turn Right” — one goes left, the other goes right. Will these two parallel lines miss each other forever or circle back to meet? This unforgettable illustrated story is now brought to life before your very eyes. Taiwan’s first Jimmy Liao Theme Square, combined with the “Lancheng Star” project, repurposes the old railway dormitory area south of Yilan Railway Station through urban renewal, transforming it into a bright and open recreational space. It presents the theme “Moments of Scenery,” drawing imagery and stories from three of Jimmy Liao’s picture books — “Starry Starry Night,” “The Underground City,” and “Turn Left, Turn Right” — to connect concepts like “travel” and “fragments of life’s scenery” with the venue. Strolling through the area feels like stepping into a picture book world, or as if the characters have jumped out of the pages and come alive before your eyes.

King Car Whisky Distillery

Yilan, nestled between the Central Mountain Range and the Snow Mountain Range, has long been known for its pristine water quality. In addition to the famous Jiaoxi Hot Springs and Su’ao Cold Springs, the King Car Whisky Distillery, located at the foot of the Snow Mountain Range, makes full use of Yilan’s unique hydrology and climate to produce Taiwan’s first domestically made whisky — “KAVALAN,” which was also the first to shine on the international spirits awards scene. The King Car Whisky Distillery has also transformed into a tourist distillery, where visitors can follow professional guides to learn about the entire whisky-making process, from raw material preparation to fermentation, distillation, and maturation.

Dajin Leisure Agriculture Area

Encompassing a vast expanse of mountain forests, Dajin Leisure Agriculture Area is Taiwan’s first officially approved agricultural leisure park. Its endless orchards are filled with sweet and juicy fruits such as oranges, ponkans, nianjans, kumquats, peaches, and honey plums — truly the backyard orchard of the people of Yilan. Visitors can sample the 40-year-popular Shunjin Preserved Fruit Factory, or try innovative treats like Liuji Peanut Candy and Chunji Malt Crackers. Additionally, dozens of Yilan-style snack stalls outside the Shunjin Preserved Fruit Factory offer an incredible variety, tempting you to hop from one stall to the next for a truly satisfying feast.
