The annual “New Taipei City Gongliao International Marine Music Festival” opened yesterday. The first day’s theme, “Rock the Earth Village,” brought together Russia’s hardcore punk band “Scarlet Pills,” Australia’s “The On Fires,” the U.S.’s “Far From Finished,” Japan’s rising pop-rock sensation “flumpool,” and the mainland Chinese band “Escape Plan,” which blends British and pop-rock styles. The headliner was Taiwan’s legendary rock band Mayday, along with international guest performers, who ignited the waves of Gongliao with their instruments and voices. However, due to the approach of Typhoon Soulik, the originally scheduled 5-day event will be postponed after the opening night, with activities from July 11–14 rescheduled.
