What’s the first image that comes to mind when you think of sharks? With International Shark Week officially kicking off in August, One&Only Cape Town resort has launched a new “Close Encounter Experiences” program. Led by renowned great white shark expert and marine conservationist Chris Fallows, founder of APEX Predators, this activity allows participants to go shark viewing. One&Only Cape Town is located at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town. Just a 25-minute drive takes you to False Bay, where you’ll board a specially designed boat. Chris will share his extensive knowledge of the ocean and guide guests through activities such as cage diving, underwater photography, or observing sharks, whales, seals, and seabirds from the sea. Chris Fallows is known for capturing rare moments of great white sharks breaching the surface to hunt, and has taken many stunning photos and documentary footage. Therefore, embarking on an adventure with him and the APEX Predators team is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, especially not to be missed by photography enthusiasts.

 

Chris is a passionate advocate for marine conservation. He explains, “Witnessing a natural predator in action is the ultimate desire for most wildlife enthusiasts. During the peak season from April to September, there are hunting opportunities almost every day, and a simple morning shark-viewing trip can offer several such thrilling moments.” He adds, “We focus on providing a comprehensive wilderness experience, showcasing various species to our guests. The activities are not just about adrenaline but also blend education with entertainment.” When passengers on board witness the 20-foot-long, 4,200-pound prehistoric giant breach the surface to hunt a Cape fur seal, their hearts will race and adrenaline will surge.

 

Besides the great white shark, participants in One&Only’s “Close Encounter Experiences” can also observe other shark species, dolphins, and a large number of whales. Activities include sea exploration tours, cage diving, or free diving. You can also visit the Two Oceans Aquarium at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town, where, accompanied by an instructor, you can swim in the large aquarium tanks with broadnose sevengill sharks.

 

After a day of thrilling activities and close encounters with sharks, whales, and other marine life, unwinding with a delicious meal at Reuben’s Restaurant is the perfect way to relax.
