For the first time, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications stepped beyond physical exhibition venues, leveraging the internet to expand its reach and mobilize the entire nation. Themed "Good Food, Good Fortune: Travel Taiwan," the 2013 Taiwan Cuisine Series was launched, gathering recommendations from 13 national scenic areas for the "100 Delicacies Grand Prize" featuring 27 travel routes, 75 restaurants, and 46 fine dining hotels. In August, joint promotions were offered to allow the public to enjoy the lively atmosphere of the Food Month no matter where they are. The event featured four major series: the "Top 10 Night Market Food PK," "Taiwan Cuisine Classics Exhibition," "Taiwan Cuisine Challenge," and "Group Meal Showdown," each taking turns to shine. Among them, the online voting results for the "Top 10 Night Market Food PK" were announced, with oyster omelet (oyster pancake) topping the charts in the classic cuisine category, beating out fried chicken cutlets and stinky tofu. The innovative snacks category was dominated by scallop skewers, crispy squid, and moon shrimp pancakes, which took the top three spots.

The series of events kicked off with excitement in August and will continue through December. First, the voting results of the "Top 10 Night Markets PK" showed that oyster omelet remains an unrivaled icon of night market cuisine. Additionally, innovative snacks like crispy squid and scallop skewers also made the list. To thank the public for their votes, oyster omelet vendors across Taiwan will give away 3,000 skewers as a token of appreciation.

Furthermore, the "Taiwan Cuisine Challenge" not only carries on the essence of previous years' "cooking competitions" but has expanded into three categories: tourist hotels, restaurants, and schools, conducting a large-scale nationwide "open audition." The finals will feature ingredients with production and sales traceability certifications provided by the Council of Agriculture to test the culinary skills of each group. As for the ongoing "2013 Taiwan Group Meal Showdown," the list of 114 shortlisted restaurants was announced today. On-site evaluations will be conducted in August, and selected restaurants will be compiled into a guide by the Tourism Bureau. This guide will be distributed through overseas tourism offices to international tour operators, and included in itineraries by local reception agencies, allowing more group travelers to enjoy high-quality Taiwanese cuisine.

Starting in August, the highlight of the "Taiwan Cuisine Classics Exhibition" takes center stage, featuring a fantastic lineup of 121 restaurants and hotels under "100 Delicacies Grand Prize" and "Gourmet Fine Dining." Recommended from the perspective of local food experts by various national scenic area management offices, the "100 Delicacies Grand Prize" includes 27 travel routes, with 71 restaurants across Taiwan plus 4 specialty group meal restaurants offering joint promotions. Customers spending over NT$2,000 receive a NT$200 discount, and the first 88 customers at each restaurant can also enjoy an early-bird NT$300 voucher. The "Gourmet Fine Dining" section features 46 hotels across northern, central, southern, and eastern Taiwan, offering dining discounts of 88% (or more) off, including buffets, premium set meals, and themed hotel restaurants. Long-awaited hotel meal vouchers can also be purchased online via the website, with discounts starting as low as 53% off at hotels like Fuhang Hotel and Taichung Evergreen Laurel Hotel. Keep an eye on the event website throughout August for surprise limited-time offers. By downloading the "Gourmet Fine Dining Foodie Voucher" from the site, visitors can access various discounts offered by participating hotels.

A special "Three Hearts, Two Minds Support" online voting campaign is also planned. From now until August 31, simply go online to support your favorite eateries. Vote daily and stand a chance to win NT$100,000 in meal vouchers or a NT$20,000 premium set meal every week. Additionally, there's a fun, all-ages "Little Gourmet Master" quiz game where you can learn about local specialty ingredients from various scenic areas and compete for prizes totaling NT$150,000.
