As autumn winds blow, it’s once again the peak season for New Taipei City’s “Wanli Crab.” The sea crabs are especially plump and of premium quality, and when cooked and served, their sweet and fresh flavors are simply irresistible. Over 80% of Taiwan’s sea crabs come from Wanli District in New Taipei City. To allow international tourists visiting Taiwan and visitors across the country to deeply experience the unique taste of Taiwan’s sea crabs, New Taipei City promoted the “Wanli Crab” brand last year and has specially planned the “2013 New Taipei City Crab Festival,” a series of annual events, so more people can enjoy this distinctive local cuisine.

From September 28 to October 27, over four consecutive weekends, a “Holiday Auction Market” will be held at Yehliu Fishing Port. A variety of fresh seafood will be displayed, featuring queue-limited flash sales and 100-TWD bidding activities. The public is invited to come and experience the lively atmosphere of the seafood auction. With crisp autumn weather making it perfect for outings, visiting New Taipei’s fishing ports lets you not only feast on plump crabs and enjoy the port scenery but also purchase locally produced, high-quality, affordable seafood — a rare opportunity not to be missed!

This year’s Crab Festival carnival also features a fun crab-themed walk event, inviting participants to show off creative crab costumes. Prizes include Good Luck, Early Bird, and Participation Awards, which consist of La New sports shoes vouchers, Yehliu Ocean World lucky bags, and a 50% discount on entry to Yehliu Geo Park. Online registration begins now and runs until 5:00 PM on October 4, with a limit of 200 participants. Additionally, this year a “Wanli Crab Name Call” has been launched — anyone whose name ends with the character for “crab” (or a homophone) or is named “Wanli” will receive a free Wanli crab and limited-edition special prizes. Registration is open from now until September 25.

Moreover, this year also recommends three festive mooncake-season gifts: freshly delivered, plump Wanli crabs from the source, limited-edition crab-shaped mooncakes, and the exclusive Fugui Fishing Port seafood barbecue gift box for Mid-Autumn. The Fugui BBQ gift box includes four-piece, five-piece, and seven-piece seafood combinations, with promotional prices ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 TWD. Phone orders are now being accepted.
