The plum blossom season runs from late December to the end of January each year. Plum blossoms bloom in the cold winter, with thousands of hectares of white plum flowers in full glory, filling the air with a delicate fragrance. Known as the hometown of plums, Nantou County’s Xinyi Township is home to the largest area of plum trees in all of Taiwan. Its three major plum blossom viewing spots are “Fengguidou,” “Wusongping,” and “Niuchongkeng.” Among them, Niuchongkeng is a lesser-known hidden gem and served as the backdrop for actress Lin Chi-ling’s China Airlines calendar photo shoot. While strolling through the plum groves, you might see snow-white petals gently falling, as if walking along a path covered in white blossoms. The vibrant colors — pink, white, pale green — create a dreamlike scene resembling a snow-blanketed path. Looking out over the hills covered in white plum blossoms feels like stepping into a traditional Chinese ink painting. The phrase “beauty in numbers” truly comes to life here.

Liu Family Plum Garden boasts a vast expanse of land and a beautiful environment that captivates visitors at first glance. With green lawns, lush distant mountains, snow-white plum blossoms, and the embrace of nature, the deep blue sky completes a stunning picture — as if you’re standing inside a painting.

Walking along the winding gravel path into Liu Family Plum Garden, you’ll be greeted by green spaces and plum tree groves. The terrain of the garden gently undulates like a hillside. The surrounding forested mountains layer beautifully, making the entire plum garden even more breathtaking.

The most captivating feature is the lush green lawn. When you’re tired from walking, you can relax under the plum trees on the soft grass, gaze up at the blue sky and white clouds, admire the plum blossoms, and feel the petals gently landing on your face. It’s the perfect spot for an afternoon nap or a lazy moment of leisure. Liu Family Plum Garden is one of the largest in the Niuchongkeng area and enjoys a prime location, facing the Chenyoulan River and the Junda Mountains. Currently, around fifteen hectares of the garden are open to the public. When the plum blossom season arrives, you can overlook the sea of white plum blossoms. This not only attracts regular tourists but also painters, musicians, and photography enthusiasts who come specifically to admire the scenery. Liu Family Plum Garden offers visitors a closer connection to plum blossoms, allowing them to appreciate their beauty up close.

With the arrival of the plum blossom season in Xinyi Township, Nantou County, the Xinyi Township Farmers’ Association holds an annual month-long “Tramping Through Snow for Plum Blossoms” tourism event starting in late December. The event combines local cuisine, scenic beauty, and indigenous cultural elements, featuring performances such as Bunun tribal songs and dances, plum blossom-themed meals, tea tasting, and pottery workshops to enrich visitors’ plum blossom experience. Enjoy music beneath the blooming plum trees, admire traditional Chinese paintings of plum blossoms, sip tea under the trees, explore the Xinyi Township agricultural specialty product exhibition, savor Bunun cultural cuisine, and join fun plum-related games.
