As the excitement of the Lunar New Year holiday lingers, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival is in full swing. The first event of the 2014 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival kicked off on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, featuring the Yuanbao (treasure) lanterns, which symbolize wealth and prosperity, taking flight. The second event is scheduled for February 8 at Pingxi Junior High School, where “Wish Lanterns” made up of blessings in many different languages from around the world will be released. The grand finale on February 14 at Shifen Square will feature the adorable and heartwarming “Round Baby Lanterns.” Each event of the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival is expected to release 10 waves of lanterns, with a total of 4,300 lanterns across the three events.

To allow more people to share the feeling of peace and happiness brought by the sky lanterns, the “New Taipei Travelers” Facebook fan page has launched the “A Lifetime of Happiness Takes Flight – Hope to Fly” wish campaign. From now until February 23, anyone who posts their lifelong wish on the “New Taipei Travelers” fan page will have a chance to win a NT$10,000 wish fulfillment fund or a small keychain prayer lantern ornament (200 winners). To encourage everyone to make their wishes early in the new year, those who post their wishes before February 7 will also be entered into a draw for VIP lantern-release spots at the February 14 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival (10 winners).
