Starting from the end of April, netizens in New Taipei City will have a new spot to enjoy a cycling-friendly lifestyle on a pedestrian scenic bridge. The “Crescent Bridge,” dedicated exclusively to pedestrians and bicycles, is located about 500 meters upstream from the Xin Hai Bridge, connecting bicycle paths on both sides of the Dahan River. It also links Banqiao’s 435 Art & Cultural Special Zone with Xinzhuang Old Street. The bridge features four uniquely themed observation and rest platforms, and includes a transparent skywalk on the “Dance of Water” platform that spans the main river channel. The nighttime light show is themed “Rhythm of Light,” using lighting to highlight the elegant arches of the bridge and projecting highlights onto the water to extend the scenic bridge’s flowing mountain-and-water aesthetic.

The Crescent Bridge has a total length of approximately 725 meters and a height of 65 meters. Its design adopts an “asymmetrical double-steel tied-arch structure,” with the two arches standing about 50 and 25 meters high respectively, and the bridge is 8 meters wide. It is the longest double-span steel arch bridge in Taiwan. The bridge features four uniquely themed observation and rest platforms: “Curve of Art,” “Shadows of Light,” “Dance of Water,” and “Rhythm of Wind.” Once the nighttime light display is completed, it will beautify the night scenery along the Dahan River and establish new landmarks for Banqiao and Xinzhuang. The project has now entered its final stage and is expected to be completed in April.

New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu stated that there are Banqiao Junior High School and Xinzhuang Junior High School on either side of the Dahan River. Once the Crescent Bridge is completed, it will ensure the safety of students and residents. Whether they are heading to the MRT station or taking a stroll in the sports park, pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be separated, guaranteeing the safety of road users.
