“Liu Ruiqi, founder of Phoenix Bay, said that the ingredients for their baked local pineapple cakes and roselle sweet potato products are all contract-grown with farmers in eastern Taiwan. For instance, when making pineapple filling, there is always a rich, natural juice produced. He felt that not a single drop of this unpolluted pineapple juice from Ruisui Township in Hualien should go to waste. After collecting it, he adjusted the proportions over multiple trials to create the perfect blend, resulting in local pineapple ice cream — and his mother was the very first taste tester!” His mother was full of praise for the sweet, tangy, and fragrant local pineapple ice cream, which gave him even more confidence to recommend it to moms across the country. Meanwhile, the roselle contracted from Shoufeng Township in Hualien and Jinfeng Township in Taitung has given birth to the country’s one and only roselle ice cream, with its naturally stunning pink color being nothing short of amazing.

The “Feng Shen Ice Cream,” a blend of local pineapple and roselle, features a light beige and pink swirl, offering a multi-layered sweet and sour taste. The aroma of pineapple melts on the tip of your tongue, while the tangy sweetness of roselle fills your entire palate. It is the first low-calorie ice cream in the country created by Phoenix Bay, containing absolutely no added flavors or artificial coloring, resulting in a refreshing and cool treat.

The pineapples used in the local pineapple ice cream all come from the native pineapples of Fuxing Village in Ruisui. During the process of making pineapple filling, the natural pineapple juice is preserved. Pineapple contains a unique natural digestive component called bromelain, which can break down proteins, aid digestion, stimulate appetite, and is especially beneficial for post-meal health care. Pineapple is highly nutritious — its vitamin C content is five times that of apples. It is also rich in protease, which helps the body digest proteins, and provides abundant fructose, glucose, citric acid, and protease, all of which also help with weight loss.

According to research by a team from Chung Shan Medical University, drinking 200cc of roselle hot beverage daily can reduce blood lipid levels by over 20% after one month and also lower blood pressure. Drinking it continuously for six months can improve skin hydration and redness, as well as reduce the depth of wrinkles. These findings were published on November 6, 2013, at the “2013 International Conference on Nutritional Health Foods.” The natural phytochemicals in roselle, such as anthocyanins, flavonoids, and other polyphenols, can effectively eliminate free radicals, increase the body’s oxidative tolerance, improve blood circulation, and thereby enhance the skin’s repair capabilities. Customers who have tried it have been pleasantly surprised by the deliciousness of Phoenix Bay’s ice cream, all agreeing: “Natural and local — that’s the ultimate luxury in flavor!”
