The most popular event of 2014, the FIFA World Cup, was held in Brazil with great fanfare. Football fans from around the world focused on the spectacular performances of their favorite players. Emirates Airlines, one of the main sponsors of this year’s World Cup, recently unveiled its first Boeing 777-300ER aircraft featuring the “Pelé” livery. Pelé, the legendary football icon, serves as Emirates’ global brand ambassador and is also a three-time World Cup winner. Before the livery aircraft’s inaugural flight, Pelé personally signed the fuselage. This “Pelé”-liveried aircraft features a design that combines Emirates’ specially created FIFA World Cup graphics with the signature of the football legend.

The “Pelé”-liveried aircraft will operate on the Dubai–São Paulo route, with two additional Boeing 777s and Airbus A380s set to follow with the same livery. During the 2014 World Cup, the “Pelé” aircraft is expected to carry over 18,000 passengers from around the globe via Dubai to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo to witness the thrilling matches.

To ensure no football fan misses out on any World Cup updates, Emirates Airlines will broadcast live matches on selected flights through its ice in-flight entertainment system. Passengers on other flights can also stay up to date with real-time match info via the ice system.
