Every winter, as temperatures plummet, romantic and dazzling lights illuminate various parts of Japan, adding a touch of warmth to the cold winter nights. Osaka’s popular “Kaiyukan Aquarium” once again holds a “Winter Light Exhibition” in front of the aquarium, complete with an adorable parade of waddling penguins.

This year, Kaiyukan has used 1.2 million bulbs to create a giant blue whale leaping out of the sea. The light display also flashes in sync with music every half hour, presenting an ever-changing land-based ocean world — the largest-scale display in recent years. In addition, from Christmas through January 15th of the following year, the aquarium is hosting a penguin parade where cute penguins waddle outside their habitat to meet visitors up close and celebrate the winter season.
