The Taoyuan Airport MRT is expected to start operations by the end of 2015. With about 95% of the construction completed, the project is almost finished. The most closely watched fare is expected to be around NT$200. Once it’s completed, the direct trip from Taipei Main Station to Taoyuan Airport will only take 35 minutes.

The Airport MRT runs from Taipei Main Station southward through Taoyuan International Airport to Taoyuan Zhongli Railway Station. Along the route, it passes through stations such as Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Linkou, Airport Terminals 1, 2, and 3, Airport Hotel, and the High-Speed Rail, totaling 22 stations over a length of 51 kilometers. Two types of trains, distinguished by color—purple express trains and blue local trains—will operate. The purple express trains depart from Taipei Main Station and make stops only at key urban and airport stations, reaching Terminal 1 of Taoyuan Airport in just 35 minutes. The blue local trains stop at every station, taking 70 minutes to reach Terminal 1. In the future, both types of trains will run alternately, with an average frequency of one train every five minutes.

Additionally, the Airport MRT will offer pre-departure check-in and baggage check services at major stations. Passengers can complete these formalities at various Airport MRT stations before proceeding to the airport for a more convenient boarding experience.

The MRT project is still under intense construction. Whether it can be completed and opened by the end of 2015 has been questioned by legislators and related authorities. The engineering team responsible has stated that they will do their utmost to accelerate progress and complete necessary testing to avoid any delays in the scheduled opening.
