Those who often go hiking know that there are two times of the year when sweet gums are at their most beautiful — apart from the red foliage before leaf-fall, there’s also the bright red of spring sprouts. In the early days, Aowanda was famous for having large pure stands of sweet gum trees, such as Maple Lake, Maple Forest, and Maple Pit. Apart from their fruit being used medicinally, the uniquely fragrant resin can be used as an ingredient in chewing gum. The shiitake mushrooms cultivated on sweet gum logs are of excellent quality and are highly renowned as premium log-grown shiitake materials. Among them, the shiitake produced from sweet gum logs have exceptional taste and flavor — every year before Lunar New Year or Dragon Boat Festival, discerning friends rush to place orders for them.
