Seven Must-Visit Parks Worldwide – A New Attraction in Tainan’s Hele Square!

The Tainan “Hele Square,” acclaimed as one of the “world’s seven most anticipated parks,” has attracted significant interest from international media since its planning phase. With picturesque views both day and night, the square will officially open on March 7 in a completely renewed form.

On the day of the opening, in addition to Mayor Huang Wei-zhe officiating the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dutch architectural genius Winy Maas of MVRDV, the designer behind Hele Square, will also be present to provide a guided tour and explanation, further putting Tainan city in the global spotlight.

The opening of Hele Square is timed with spring, the season of renewal. Just like its English name “The Spring,” it carries dual meanings of springtime and a bubbling fountain. It also signifies the rebirth of the Zhongzheng Commercial District, which connects Haian Road and the canal. More importantly, it represents an injection of vitality into urban development, bringing new creativity, ideas, and endless possibilities to Tainan, a city rich in history and culture.

The site of Hele Square was formerly a canal blind section. After the 1970s, it became China City, holding shared memories for many Tainan residents, and also served as the most important node along the Zhongzheng Road axis. Starting in 2002, the municipal government began a comprehensive regional redevelopment plan. After 18 years of marathon-style urban renewal, the largest water-friendly space in downtown Tainan—Hele Square—was born, surpassing everyone’s expectations.

In the future, visitors can enjoy the setting sun, sunbathe, splash around, and take leisurely strolls by the urban waterfront pool. The innovative approach to urban renewal also sets a new benchmark for Tainan, marking a milestone in the city’s development.
