Not just Disney: Japan's four major theme parks announce closures

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in Japan, with 110 confirmed cases reported, Taiwan has raised its travel advisory for Japan to Level 2 (Alert). To prevent potential cluster infections of the novel pneumonia, Tokyo Disneyland has also temporarily announced a closure.

Tokyo Disneyland is a must-visit theme park for many travelers to Japan. Due to the continuously expanding outbreak, following the cancellation of evening shows, it urgently announced a closure on February 28. Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea will temporarily close from February 29 to March 15 in accordance with policy.

Although Disney has stated that it plans to resume operations after March 16, it also noted that a reopening announcement will be made after further discussions with relevant authorities. Meanwhile, Universal Studios Japan, another must-visit destination in western Japan, has also followed suit with the closure policy, suspending operations from February 29 to March 15.

Not only that, due to three confirmed cases in Fukuoka and Kumamoto, Kumamoto has recently seen the cancellation or postponement of major events. The daily performances of the famous mascot Kumamon have also been canceled. In addition, Sanrio Puroland in Japan has announced a closure from February 22 to March 12 to prevent the further spread of the outbreak.

Additionally, the Ghibli Museum has announced it will be closed from February 28 to March 17. With the COVID-19 outbreak expanding in Japan, various events have begun to be postponed, suspended, or scaled down, while tourist attractions are also facing temporary closures.
