Take a weekend nature trip — the second-phase fallow flower fields in New Taipei City are blooming one after another. From late November onward, visitors can enjoy sea of flowers at locations such as the Yonghe District Citizen’s Farm, around Zhongzheng Third Road and Erjia Road. These include cosmos, yellow cosmos, and zinnias, among other short-term flowering plants, attracting many tourists to Yonghe for flower viewing.

In the past, many areas in New Taipei City were used to cultivate rice in paddy fields. However, with urban development and reduced food demand, the city’s total rice farming area has shrunk to just 116 hectares, with Yonghe District having the largest portion — around 40 hectares in the first growing season. To prevent farmland from lying idle, the Agriculture Bureau encourages farmers to plant ornamental crops on about 30 hectares during the second season. Aside from receiving fallow subsidies, this also helps beautify the farmland surroundings. This weekend, why not head to New Taipei City to admire the flowers and discover little joys hidden in its alleys?

Flower Viewing Transportation Information:
1. Take the free Yonghe District Bus Line 2 – Erqiao Jiande Route
Get off at Zhongzheng Third Road, Lane 318, Lane 398-1, or Qiu’s Alley (currently, colorful flower seas are blooming gradually); or get off at the Highway Bridge Stop (blooms expected from around mid-to-late December).
2. Citizen’s Farm: Travel northbound or southbound, exit at the Sanxia-Yonghe Interchange → head toward Yonghe, make a U-turn at the first intersection after crossing the Sanying Bridge → go straight along the bridge’s underpass path to the end, then turn right onto Huannan Road → continue straight until you see a steel shack near the highway with a Citizen’s Farm sign, then turn right.
