The outbreak in South Korea has rapidly intensified over the past five days. As of the 23rd, there have been 7 deaths among confirmed cases, with the total number of infections reaching 763. On the 23rd alone, 161 new cases were reported.

The rapid rise in cases is mainly linked to a female infected person in Daegu who attended a large gathering of the Shincheonji Church in Seoul while showing symptoms. Church members then spread the virus to their relatives and friends. A South Korean soldier who visited his girlfriend in Daegu—also a Shincheonji member—was infected, prompting serious concern from the military.
Currently, the outbreak is concentrated in Gyeonggi Province and North Gyeongsang Province. COVID-19 (formerly known as the Wuhan virus) has been classified as a "highest-level infectious disease" in South Korea, allowing authorities to immediately halt group activities at schools or organizations as needed. Major exhibitions and tourism events are bound to be affected.
