A weak tropical storm forms as temperatures rise—watch out for heavy rain

Tropical Storm "Man-yu" (No. 13) formed at 8 a.m. today. The former tropical depression located south of the Ryukyu Islands has been moving slowly northeastward and is currently about 300 kilometers from Taiwan. The Central Weather Bureau predicts that it will continue to move northeast toward the southern waters of Japan, and the probability of it directly affecting Taiwan is relatively low. However, its peripheral cloud bands may bring brief showers to northern Taiwan.

Currently, the most significant impact on Taiwan is still the large low-pressure system covering the island, which has increased moisture in the surrounding area. The Central Weather Bureau has also issued a heavy rain advisory for New Taipei City, Keelung’s northern coast, Kaohsiung, Tainan, Pingtung, and Taitung. Other areas also have a chance of localized heavy or torrential rain, and the thermal effect in the afternoon will intensify. Those who need to go out are advised to carry rain gear and stay hydrated, especially as temperatures are expected to rise when the sun comes out in the afternoon.
