Crazy Hidden Gem in Tainan: Extraterrestrial Waterfall Wonder X Taiwan’s First Constellation Café

The original structure of Mijiao Café in the suburbs of Tainan was built in May 1983, with a diameter of 1,356 cm and a height of 911.5 cm. It was the largest-diameter molasses storage tank at the Chelushuei Sugar Refinery, and now the Mijiao Skywalk connecting the three-tank molasses space is filled with the rich aroma of coffee.

Inside the café, there is a food delivery cart designed with bicycle wheel rims that can reach the third floor directly; from the rooftop, you can gaze at the Central Mountain Range, Chi Mei Museum, as well as the Chelushuei Sugar Refinery and its dreamy night view. Such a fantastical scene—what you’re sipping is not just coffee, what you’re seeing is not just scenery, but the sweetness of the entire universe.

Built in 1920 by hydraulic engineering genius Yoichi Hatta and engineers of the time. During the Japanese colonial period, the Chianan Irrigation System was constructed. Due to insufficient water supply from the Wushantou Reservoir, a diversion channel was set up to channel water from the Zengwen River on the east side into the river mouth before injecting it into the reservoir. When the water level rose and rapidly flowed into the reservoir, it created a vortex waterfall wonder resembling a circular shaft in the middle of the water.

The technology developed by Yoichi Hatta back then still operates to this day. Coupled with the serene natural environment nearby, it is not only a wonder of Tainan and a pride of Taiwan, but can also be called a world wonder.
