When memories are exposed, everyone has hidden secrets

The movie Secret, adapted from the bestselling manga Highest Secret, will be released on 11/4. Director Keishi Ohtomo spent five years preparing to bring what were deemed "unfilmable" scenes—such as mental imagery and MRI scans from the original work—to the big screen, and has finally succeeded in presenting world-first, mind-blowing visuals that transcend sensory experience. As a result, Secret has been compared to the Hollywood classic The Cell.

The story follows "Section 9," a special investigative unit that visualizes the memories of the deceased by scanning their brains to solve cold cases. Section Chief Shin (played by Toma Ikuta), who has rare beauty, and rookie investigator Aoki (Masaki Okada) are tasked with peeking into the brain of death row inmate Rokugawa (Kippei Shiina) to find the whereabouts of his missing eldest daughter, Kinuko (Risa Yoshida). However, the memory images displayed on the screen shock the investigators...

In the visuals, Kinuko is seen wielding a knife. Although Section 9 and Detective Manabe (Nao Omori) later find Kinuko, she has lost her memory due to the shock of witnessing her father’s crimes. Meanwhile, Manabe tracks down a man connected to Kinuko, who commits suicide right in front of him. It is later discovered that nine people across Japan took their own lives at the exact same time. In the search for answers behind these simultaneous suicides, the “secret” is about to be revealed...
