First death from Wuhan pneumonia confirmed, source of infection identified; ongoing investigation into central Taiwan family cluster

The Wuhan pneumonia outbreak continues to spread, and the source of infection for the 19th case has been confirmed as a Taiwanese businessman who returned from Zhejiang.

The Central Epidemic Command Center announced today (20th) that, in order to clarify the source of infection for the 19th confirmed case of Wuhan pneumonia in Taiwan, they recently identified a Taiwanese businessman who returned from Zhejiang on January 22, had exhibited respiratory symptoms, and sought medical treatment multiple times. After blood samples were sent to National Taiwan University Hospital and Academia Sinica for antibody testing, it was confirmed today that this businessman had Wuhan pneumonia antibodies, proving that the case was infected by him.

The Command Center pointed out that, regarding the central Taiwan family cluster incident, a total of 248 contacts have been identified so far, with 247 having been tested. Among them, 4 have tested positive (all are family members of Case 19, who were announced between February 16 and 19), 217 tested negative, 26 are still under testing, and the health status of these contacts will continue to be monitored.
