The cherry blossoms in Smangus are in magnificent full bloom. Due to its rugged roads and remote mountain location, it has become a hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing. However, after road maintenance on the industrial route last November, driving into the mountains has become much easier.

This year, the cherry blossoms in Smangus began blooming early, with the entire entrance of the village immediately greeted by rows of delicate pink cherry blossom trees. The tribe’s cherry grove has about 2,000 trees, and the most eye-catching attraction is the Giant Tree Trail and the pink cherry blossom tunnel in full bloom, which feels like stepping into a fairytale-like wonderland—truly magical.

In addition to the soft pink Somei Yoshino cherries, Smangus also features other varieties such as native wild mountain cherries, double-flowered cherry (Yaezakura), Paje (Pohyōnzo), Wushe cherry, and Yoshino cherry. Red, pink, and pale pink blooms unfold successively across the mountains, painting the entire Atayal village in shades of pink spring.
