The Central Epidemic Command Center announced on February 18 that due to the continuously rising number of confirmed cases on the Diamond Princess cruise ship docked at Yokohama Port in Japan, and with four passengers holding Taiwanese nationality already confirmed infected. To safeguard the safety of our citizens and protect their rights to return home, the Command Center has designated the cruise ship as an infected area for COVID-19 starting from today. All Taiwanese passengers on board (including travelers and crew members) who wish to return to Taiwan must do so via a chartered flight arranged by the Command Center and comply with relevant quarantine measures.

The Command Center pointed out that as of now, the Diamond Princess cruise ship docked at Yokohama Port in Japan has had 1,723 samples tested by Japanese authorities, with 445 people confirmed to be infected with COVID-19, among which 192 showed no symptoms at the time of testing.
The Command Center emphasized that according to Article 58 of the "Infectious Disease Control Act," the competent authority may implement home quarantine, centralized quarantine, isolation treatment, or other necessary measures for individuals entering from infected areas, those who have been in contact or suspected contact, or those who are or are suspected to be infected with an infectious disease. Violators of the above regulations may be subject to a maximum fine of NT$150,000 under Article 69, Paragraph 1 of the Infectious Disease Control Act.
