Affected by the cold wave, temperatures dropped significantly on Sunday, February 16. From the evening of the 16th to the 19th, temperatures across the region will be noticeably lower, with a probability of temperatures falling below 10 degrees. From the evening of the 16th to the daytime of the 17th, there is a probability of sustained temperatures around or below 10 degrees in some areas (orange alert). This front carries moisture, gradually passing through Taiwan on Sunday morning, expanding the rainfall area. There will be brief showers in central and northern Taiwan as well as northeastern areas, and localized brief showers in mountainous regions of Hualien-Taitung and the south. The front will quickly pass through Taiwan by Sunday evening, followed by a cold air mass moving southward, reaching cold wave intensity. Due to the rain, northern Taiwan will feel a significant temperature drop early in the morning, with temperatures only around 20 degrees. Other areas will also begin to see temperatures decline after noon, reaching about 22 to 24 degrees, and becoming even colder at night.
From Monday to Wednesday morning (17th to 19th), affected by the cold wave, the weather will be cold across the region. The lowest temperatures on Tuesday morning will be between 7 and 11 degrees in areas north of Tainan and in the northeastern region, with even lower temperatures in open areas. The Hengchun Peninsula and Hualien-Taitung will also see lows of only 12 or 13 degrees. Please prepare for warmth in advance. Regarding rainfall, this cold wave is relatively dry and cold, with most areas experiencing mostly cloudy to sunny weather, except for localized brief showers in the eastern half and mountainous areas of the western half.
From Wednesday (19th) daytime to Friday (21st), the cold wave will gradually weaken, with temperatures rising. However, due to radiative cooling, temperatures will still be low in the early morning and evening, with large day-night temperature differences in the western half. Most areas will be mostly cloudy to sunny, with localized brief showers in the eastern half.
Next weekend, from the 22nd to the 24th, most areas will see mostly cloudy to sunny weather, with occasional localized brief showers in the eastern half. Additionally, before dawn on Sunday the 16th, there is a probability of localized fog or low clouds affecting visibility in Kinmen, Matsu, and the western half, so please stay cautious when traveling or commuting.
