Taichung has a new Instagram-worthy spot: an enchanted forest-inspired art mural has appeared in the newly renovated public space “Dingqiaozai Xin Gongdi,” located next to the entrance of National Chung Hsing University in the South District. Over nearly a year of transformation, this previously worn-out corridor has been turned into the world’s first 3D night-time mural on a non-flat surface, titled “Time Forest.” It offers different visual aesthetics during the day and at night, presenting breathtaking scenes that are impossible not to capture.

“Time Forest” features both 3D artwork and night-time luminescent painting, creating different visual effects throughout the day and night. It took nearly a year and the work of 10 artists, who employed four major techniques—sketching with fineliner pens, 3D perspective drawing, invisible luminescent painting, and optical illusion art—to produce a massive fineliner pen sketch installation at “Dingqiaozai Xin Gongdi.”

“Time Forest” centers around the Taiwan collared scops owl as its creative theme. Recessed vertical surfaces within the installation are designed as the owl’s habitat, while integrated clock motifs symbolize the birth of wisdom nurtured by time. The mural also subtly incorporates images of several endangered Taiwanese species, such as the Mikado pheasant, Swinhoe’s pheasant, and Formosan clouded leopard, reminding viewers of the precious flora, fauna, and cultural heritage nestled within Taiwan.

In addition to the 3D night-time mural, the Xingda Park Corridor pathway has been enhanced with staggered spotlights and landscape lighting along both sides, illuminating the walkways and tree layers to improve nighttime safety and create an open, luminous corridor atmosphere—offering a higher-quality resting environment.
