When it comes to matcha glutinous rice balls, everyone surely remembers the wildly popular HowToTrip matcha balls from last year. The “matcha landslide” photos of the balls sent all matcha enthusiasts into a frenzy, sparking a buying craze. This year, HowToTrip has completely revamped its recipe, teaming up with Kyoto’s centuries-old Nouri Tea Shop to launch an upgraded version — “HowToTrip Nouri Matcha Glutinous Rice Balls.” Once again capturing the attention of all matcha aficionados, it has ignited heated discussions among matcha lovers.

This time, HowToTrip has specially collaborated with Kyoto’s renowned Nouri Tea Shop, known for its matcha, in pursuit of a more authentic Japanese matcha flavor. The rich filling is made from century-old Uji Nouri matcha from Kyoto, delivering the authentic three-layered taste of matcha — bitter, sweet, and intense — that bursts on the tongue. The outer layer is also carefully crafted using pure glutinous rice from the Zhuoshui River, resulting in chewy, bouncy rice balls. The perfect fusion of Taiwanese and Japanese elements is beautifully integrated into this upgraded version, with a sweet yet non-astringent taste that has everyone reaching for bite after bite.

In addition to the upgrade of the rice balls themselves, the packaging has also been redesigned with an exquisite karesansui (dry landscape) style and is sold in limited-edition boxes. The exclusive trial sale at PX Mart triggered a buying craze, and the latest god-tier matcha rice balls — upgraded both inside and out — have piqued curiosity. Meanwhile, the classic bagged version will also be available at FamilyMart convenience stores, allowing matcha rice ball enthusiasts to enjoy the treat without traveling far, as it's conveniently available at supermarkets.
