The CDC’s Command Center announced one new imported case of severe pneumonia with novel pathogens in Taiwan. The individual is a close contact (a son in his 20s) of the previously announced northern Taiwan couple in their 50s confirmed on February 6, and had traveled abroad with their parents. This case shows no suspicious symptoms.
After being arranged for quarantine and hospitalization by health authorities, the test result came back positive. The hospital and health authorities continue to conduct epidemiological investigations and contact tracing as part of related prevention and control efforts; so far, there are a total of 18 confirmed cases in Taiwan.
After the Star Virgo cruise ship docked at Keelung Port on the 8th, quarantine personnel boarded the ship to conduct inspections, testing a total of 128 people. The test results are as follows:
1. Symptomatic individuals with travel history to Hubei/Guangdong requiring transfer: 0 people.
2. Symptomatic individuals without travel history to Hubei/Guangdong: 60 tested, all negative.
3. Asymptomatic individuals with travel history to China (Hong Kong/Macau) and foreigners: 68 tested, all negative.
The Command Center stated that since all test results were negative, all passengers are allowed to disembark, go through entry procedures, and conduct self-health management for 14 days.
The Command Center reported that yesterday (the 8th), 71 new cases of severe pneumonia with novel pathogens were reported in Taiwan, with a cumulative total of 1,470 reported cases to date, including 18 confirmed, 1,300 ruled out, and the remainder under isolation and testing (98 preliminary negative, others pending testing); except for the first case having one contact who tested positive, all contacts of the first, second, and third cases have been released from monitoring; the contacts of the newly added case today are being traced; among the other 15 cases’ 444 contacts, a total of 14 have shown symptoms and been reported (10 negative and ruled out, 4 under testing). The group of Taiwanese businessmen who returned from Wuhan on the evening of February 3 has, so far, one confirmed case, with a cumulative six symptomatic cases reported (one ruled out, five under testing).
According to data published by China’s CDC and health commissions across provinces, municipalities, and regions, the total number of confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infections in all 31 mainland provinces, municipalities, and regions (excluding Hong Kong and Macau SARs) is 37,198, an increase of 2,656 from yesterday (with Hubei Province alone adding 2,147 cases); of these, 6,188 are severe cases, 811 deaths (780 in Hubei Province), and 28,942 suspected cases. Additionally, cases in Zhejiang Province are now mainly community transmissions.
In addition to Taiwan, there are a cumulative total of 334 confirmed international cases distributed across 26 countries/regions; major clusters include 64 on the international vessel (Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan), 40 in Singapore, 32 in Thailand, 26 in Hong Kong, and 24 in South Korea; among them, two deaths have been reported — one each in the Philippines and Hong Kong.A total of 72 countries worldwide have implemented travel restrictions on China.
