Vietnam has become an increasingly popular tourist destination, but due to confirmed cases of Wuhan pneumonia in the country, Vietnam has issued travel alerts and advisories. For those planning to visit countries with reported cases in the near future, the following precautions can be similarly heeded.
Additionally, Vietnam has banned entry to travelers from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan before May 1. Originally, Taiwan was also included, and flights from EVA Air and Starlux were temporarily unable to arrive in or depart from Vietnam. After negotiations, Taiwan was removed from the no-fly list, and Taiwanese travelers can still fly to Vietnam. Italy has also banned flights from China, Hong Kong, Macau (including Taiwan), and Taiwanese travelers currently face stranding issues in Italy, which remain unresolved and under arrangement.

Since the emergence of the "novel coronavirus" (2019-nCoV), which causes respiratory infections, in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, in December 2019, there have been several confirmed cases in Vietnam as of January 28.
To prevent the epidemic, Vietnam has raised its epidemic prevention level and implemented several emergency measures to closely monitor the development of the outbreak and prevent its spread. These include enhanced temperature checks for inbound travelers at borders and airports, as well as the establishment of emergency response teams by medical units to strictly monitor the health status of tourists and the public.
Starting January 25, mandatory medical declarations were required for those entering from China, and all flights to Wuhan and Huanggang in Hubei Province, China, were suspended. Except in emergencies, Vietnam is currently not issuing tourist visas to travelers from China’s epidemic areas (starting January 28). Some regions have also suspended receiving Chinese tourists, including Lao Cai Province in the north (starting January 27), Da Nang City in central Vietnam, and Khanh Hoa Province in the south (starting January 28).Update: On the afternoon of February 1, Vietnam suddenly refused entry to our aircraft at the airport because it has banned flights between China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan before May 1. As the WHO includes Taiwan as part of China, it was also denied entry. Flights were suspended for four hours before Vietnam announced their resumption at 23:00 on the evening of February 1.
Starlux Airlines and EVA Air both responded urgently to minimize losses; particularly for Starlux Airlines, which had just launched and focused on routes to Macau and Vietnam, the impact of the Wuhan epidemic has drawn considerable attention.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has also published a hotline for the novel coronavirus epidemic: +84-19003228, and recommends the following epidemic prevention methods for the public:
1. When purchasing food at fresh markets, please note:
(1) Wash hands with soap and water after touching fresh products.
(2) Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with your hands.
(3) Avoid contact with sick animals and spoiled food.
(4) Avoid contact with animals of unknown origin, excretions, and fluids.
2. Be sure to clean your hands first in the following situations to protect yourself and others:
(1) After coughing or sneezing.
(2) When caring for a sick person.
(3) Before, during, and after preparing food.
(4) Before eating.
(5) After using the toilet.
(6) When your hands are unclean.
(7) After touching animals or animal excretions.
3. Pay attention to personal hygiene:
(1) Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
(2) Dispose of used tissue in a covered trash bin.
(3) Take appropriate protective measures when in contact with sick individuals.
(4) Avoid contact with wild or live animals.
4. Individuals returning to Vietnam from Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, or other provinces/cities with reported outbreaks, or those who have had close contact with patients infected with the novel coronavirus, should immediately seek medical examination and treatment at the nearest healthcare facility if they develop symptoms such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing within 14 days.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises citizens that if you are planning to travel to Vietnam for business in the near future, you should adjust your itinerary appropriately based on your health condition. Should you experience any respiratory symptoms during your stay in Vietnam and need to visit a medical institution for diagnosis, please follow the epidemic prevention guidelines of health authorities and provide full details of your travel history to facilitate testing or referral by the medical facility.
