As winter sets in and cold waves sweep across the country, a festive atmosphere has taken hold nationwide. Even yakiniku restaurants have decked out their storefronts as giant Christmas gifts, aiming to shower customers with warm wishes and create memorable, atmospheric dining experiences.

Located on Minquan Road in central Taichung, Waku Yakiniku has long been a must-visit spot for yakiniku aficionados. It boasts premium meats and fresh ingredients, along with a wide selection of seafood, salads, light meals, and homemade side dishes.

The super cute Christmas exterior makes passersby think it’s a luxury boutique store.

The building itself is a renovated old warehouse from the Japanese colonial era, blending Japanese and Minnan architectural styles. With over 90 years of history, it retains its original charm while embracing new features.

The restaurant offers a range of meats, from Angus to Australian wagyu.

As a mid- to high-end priced yakiniku spot, the quality of the meat certainly reflects that. Premium options include kurobuta pork with marbleized fat, American Angus ribeye steak, ribeye with ample marbling, Australian wagyu, and premium black wagyu harami. These are among the restaurant’s star meat offerings.

The plating and seasoning at the restaurant are also meticulously prepared.

The seafood here is also highly recommended by foodies. Carefully selected tiger prawns, Hokkaido scallops, and Norwegian mackerel are lightly grilled to bring out their natural ocean flavors — a must-try for seafood lovers.

The yakiniku shop during the day, before the lights are turned on, has a unique charm of its own.
