Taiwan is Macao’s third-largest source market. According to statistics from the Macao Statistics and Census Service, in 2018, there were 1,060,968 tourist arrivals from Taiwan to Macao, showing a slight increase of 0.1%.

In 2018, the number of female travelers from Taiwan visiting Macao continued to grow. Among them, the ratio of female to male overnight visitors became closer to one-to-one compared to 2017. In addition, the number of Taiwanese travelers under the age of 15 has also shown an increasing trend year by year. This reflects the effectiveness of the Macao Government Tourism Office’s promotional efforts targeting women and families. Facing the continuous growth of the family tourism market and the influence of women in the travel consumption market, these two key demographics—women and families—are key target groups for expanding Macao tourism promotion.

In 2017, Macao was designated by UNESCO as a “Creative City of Gastronomy.” This year, efforts continue to deepen the promotion of Macao as a “Creative City of Gastronomy,” helping more consumers understand the unique characteristics of Macao’s food culture.

To provide visitors with a richer tourism experience in Macao, the Macao Government Tourism Office has launched additional tourism projects for 2019. These include the Nam Van Lake · Grand Lapa Macau, which boasts beautiful lakeside views and cultural and creative features, offering a more diverse and abundant selection of dining options. It is also a venue for many major festivals and events, allowing visitors to enjoy both the dynamic and serene beauty of this attraction.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Macao International Fireworks Display Contest. The Macao Government Tourism Office will expand the event by adding two more performances. Cultural performances have always been a key element of Macao’s tourism appeal. Macao has also begun promoting the large-scale cultural tourism event “Art Macao,” allowing visitors to experience a different side of Macao in every season.
