Letting Korean idols go wild and captivating fans, SBS TV’s “Popular Songs Sandwich” had a March pop-up at Taipei Era Shopping Mall, and the second stop is selected as Kaohsiung’s Dream Mall, with the pop-up running from April 3 to April 7.

Only 1,500 sandwiches are available daily. In addition to mayo, shredded cabbage, boiled egg, crab meat, and egg salad, there’s also a layer of strawberry jam—its sweet-and-salty taste is so good that even BTS’s? country said during a livestream they could eat five in one go!

SBS TV’s live music program “Popular Songs” is a trendsetter in Korean singing shows. The auntie behind the station’s canteen, “Xu Meihui,” specially created this “Popular Songs Sandwich” to offer singers a quick yet nutritious meal. Many celebrities love it, including BIGBANG, TVXQ, BTS, Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon, and GFRIEND.

This sandwich has actually been quietly sold at SBS for 12 years. In May 2018, popular group Seventeen posted about it on Instagram right after eating it on set and even prepared one for each fan present—a thoughtful move that caused a huge stir. Since then, the “Popular Songs Sandwich” has become a “love sandwich” between idols and fans. It has topped Naver’s search rankings multiple times, and Korea’s top three convenience stores—GS25, 7-11, and CU—even launched “similar versions.”

The world’s first overseas pop-up of the “Popular Songs Sandwich” appeared in March this year at Taipei’s Uni-President Department Store. For seven consecutive days, lines were packed all day long, with a limit of four sandwiches per person. Many fans started queuing at 8 a.m., and there was even a record of six hours of waiting on weekends.
