Mazu temples are gathering places for Taiwan’s widespread traditional folk beliefs, with devoutly visited Mazu temples found all over the island. Among them, these two religious sites related to Mazu are particularly unique—don’t miss them when visiting the area.

The first is the Changhua Glass Mazu Temple.
The Husheng Temple, also known as the “Glass Mazu Temple,” is the world’s only glass temple. Its interior and exterior are entirely built from glass. During the day, sunlight streams through the glass, making the whole temple bright and airy. At night, more than 100,000 LED lights illuminate it, creating a dazzling spectacle. Many photography enthusiasts choose to set up their cameras at dusk, waiting for the perfect moment to capture the interplay of light, shadow, and shifting clouds.

The second is the towering Mazu statue in Lienchiang (Matsu)
The 28.8-meter-tall Mazu statue is one of the most iconic landmarks in Matsu. Standing at 28.8 meters, the entire structure is built mainly from 365 pieces of granite, symbolizing “peace every day.” The viewing platform in front of the Mazu statue overlooks the entire harbor. Aside from praying to Mazu for blessings, visitors can also enjoy a beautiful sunset in the evening.
