White flowers vie in a romantic April snow shower—flossflower and tung trees bloom in succession

Farewell to March’s azalea rain—suddenly, an April snow graces the earth ! Romantic white blossoms compete in beauty, as flossflowers and tung trees bloom in turns, creating breathtaking scenery.

The soft white flowers on the treetops of the Shilin Official Residence Park near Zhongshan North Road and Fulin Park resemble layers of snow. Known as “April Snow,” the flossflower is currently spreading romance all over the ground. As the spring breeze brushes the treetops, the drooping flower clusters look like fluttering snowflakes—thousands of blooms on a single tree create a uniquely springtime flossflower snow scene !

The petals of the flossflower are slender and torn-looking, resembling the clothing of ancient ladies, hence its name. The flowers are pure white and elegant, with four petals each. Though not eye-catching individually, dozens clustered at the branch tips are captivating and exude a faint fragrance.

When the flowering season arrives in April, blooming flossflowers seem to drape the treetops with a layer of snow. The petals that drift with the wind flutter like snowflakes in the air, earning it the beautiful nickname “April Snow.” Strolling along the park pathways and admiring the springtime April snow is like being in a dream.

In addition to the romantic “April Snow” in full bloom, the tung flowers, known as “May Snow,” have also begun quietly blossoming in Shilin Official Residence Park. The peak blooming period for tung flowers is every year from April to May.
