Must-See for Japanese Toy and Gashapon Fans: Asakuma Toshio’s Animal Life Special Exhibition

From Japan’s legendary prototype artist Asakuma Toshio, who handcrafts a series of lifelike anthropomorphic animal figures, the Taiwan-exclusive Animal Life series includes "Dog Yoga Master," "Sleepy," "Roll Over, White Eyes!", "Baby Hug Lovey Dovey," "Dog Dance Master," "Pray," "Dog Yoga Baby," "Cat Yoga Master," and "Cat Yoga Baby"—each release has been beloved by fans.

The world’s first large-scale themed exhibition in 2019 will be held at Taipei’s Huashan 1914 Creative Park, where all kinds of animals are gearing up to create over 30 photo spots throughout the venue—healing and super photogenic.

From capsule toy and gashapon-sized figures to desk-sized healing items, these animals are transformed into life-size versions that can only be seen at this special exhibition. With over 30 large figures, not only are the sizes enlarged, but so are their healing and cute factors. In addition to the popular Animal Life series loved by fans, brand-new prototype works will make their first appearance at the exhibition—you can be among the first to see Asakuma’s latest creations.

Anthropomorphic animals are a hallmark of Asakuma’s work. What happens when animals appear in real human life settings? Here, animal figures are everywhere, with vivid and exaggerated expressions showcasing their “personalities”—hugely humorous. Join the animals in enjoying this crazy world; every little corner and movement will bring a smile.

The exhibition features one-meter-tall prototype works from Belgium making their Asian debut, as well as creations from Asakuma’s childhood starting from elementary school, plus out-of-print branded and anime-collaborated animal figures—all gathered at the special exhibition for an up-close appreciation of Asakuma’s delicate craftsmanship and unique creative vision.

The special exhibition shop will offer Asakuma’s Animal Life series box toys, exclusive exhibition merchandise debuting here, limited hidden-edition figures, and early-release series available only at the event.
