Taiwan’s travel market to South Korea has been growing steadily in recent years. In 2018, South Korea welcomed its 1 millionth Taiwanese visitor, thanks in no small part to the expansion of Taiwan–South Korea flight routes. The air market between the two countries now includes 10 routes, operated by 15 airlines. In recent years, several low-cost carriers (LCCs) have launched new routes, such as Taipei–Daegu in 2016, and Taipei–Muan and Taipei–Cheongju in 2018. Aside from Yangyang International Airport, seven other international airports in South Korea (Incheon, Gimpo, Jeju, Gimhae, Daegu, Muan, and Cheongju) all have regular direct flights to Taiwan, offering Taiwanese travelers more diverse options. Beyond K-pop and celebrities, Korea's long history and the unique natural landscapes and regional characteristics found across different areas are also highlights of traveling in Korea.

Building on this foundation, the Korea Tourism Organization Taipei Branch, in collaboration with five airlines—Air Busan, Eastar Jet, Jeju Air, Tigerair Taiwan, and T’way Air—as well as the globally renowned booking site Agoda, jointly launched the “Explore Local Korea: Dive Deep & Win Big” campaign. This initiative focuses on five airports outside the capital region, spreading awareness to their neighboring areas and highlighting regional tourism features. The featured destinations include: Daegu, known for its blend of food, artsy vibes, and fashion; Busan, South Korea’s largest port city and host to internationally renowned film and music festivals that showcase the charm of Korean pop culture; Muan, a key gateway to the traditional homeland of the Jeolla provinces; Cheongju, an ideal escape for urbanites seeking tranquility and slow city exploration; and Jeju, the beloved honeymoon and vacation paradise for Koreans.

The “Explore Local Korea: Dive Deep & Win Big” campaign is divided into three parts. First, to enhance public awareness of the five non-capital airports and their surrounding regions, the Korea Tourism Organization created a dedicated website that compiles information on attractions, food, transportation, and flight details for easy reference. In addition to online promotions, the campaign also features creatively designed Korea-themed train cars on Taipei Metro’s Songshan–Xindian Line and Tamsui–Xinyi Line. Each car displays exclusive airport and flight information along with featured attractions. This integrated online and offline campaign aims to deepen public interest in the five flight hubs—Daegu, Busan, Muan, Cheongju, and Jeju—as well as nearby destinations, ultimately encouraging more people to visit.

The second part of the campaign offers exclusive discounts on group tours or self-booked flights and accommodations through partnerships with airlines and booking platforms, further motivating travel. The final component involves both the Korea Tourism Organization and participating airlines giving away attractive gifts and round-trip flight tickets to Korea as rewards for those who participate in the campaign.

The Korea Tourism Organization Taipei Branch hopes that through the “Explore Local Korea: Dive Deep & Win Big” campaign, Taiwanese people can explore deeper into Korea and discover its many breathtakingly beautiful spots. This collaboration with airlines and booking sites mainly takes place during the off-peak travel season of June, during which airlines have added nearly 8,000 extra seats for Taiwanese travelers. It is expected that the campaign will boost travel to non-capital regions of Korea by 20,000 visitors, revitalizing Korea’s tourism market in June.
