Ride a bike, X admire golden rice waves, X gaze at the Milky Way – Yilan’s stunning version of the Brown Sugar Avenue

Located in the Sanqi Rice Field area in Dongshan Township, Yilan County, the rice paddies turn into lush green waves in May every year, and by June, as the grains mature, they form a vast golden avenue. As the seasons change, the landscape transforms magnificently, and the rural scenery among the golden stalks attracts many travelers every year.

The Sanqi Rice Field area is known as “Yilan’s version of the Brown Sugar Avenue.” During the rice harvest season, it resembles a giant dragon lying amidst the golden rice, truly magnificent.

Stretching about 2 kilometers in length and 5 meters in width, between Fengzun Temple and Xiesong Road, the route includes up to nine S-shaped curves with no utility poles in sight, offering expansive views.

Dongshan Township Office has also set up an observation deck to help visitors enjoy the rice waves from above, providing the perfect photo spots to capture the beauty of the sweeping golden paddies.

The 2019 Sanqi Rice Path Beauty event featured a light cycling tour launched by the township office, a highly praised annual activity. Starting from Dongshan Railway Station, cyclists enjoy the scenery through the vast rice fields, passing by Shuihuo Tongyuan and Ren Shan Trail, and end the day with a meal at Xingyuan Tea Garden, savoring Yilan’s scenery at a leisurely pace.
