Relive Nostalgia at the Sugar Factory in Dalin — A Fun One-Day Town Adventure

Dalin was originally a forest, formerly known as "Dapulin." The place names still preserved in the town—such as Zhonglin, Dingyuanlin, Lintou, Linzaiqian, and Lintouzai—give you a glimpse of its once lush greenery. Bring your family for a walk around Dalin this weekend!

To preserve the few remaining cultural relics of Taiwan’s sugar industry, the Chiayi Forest Management Office has provided an old steam locomotive and a Taiwan Sugar Corporation “Pingke No. 6203” railcar, which are now displayed at the current Dalin Sugar Factory. With its lush green lawns and historic dormitories of Taiwan Sugar employees, visitors can clearly see the traces of Taiwan’s sugar industry throughout history.

Located in Dalin, Chiayi, Minghua Wetland was originally an overgrown cemetery but has been transformed into an eco-friendly wetland that combines education and leisure. When designing Minghua Wetland, efforts were made to improve river water quality by planting local Dalin butterfly orchids, along with wooden boardwalks and ecological islands for visitors to enjoy a relaxing stroll.

The Dalin bicycle path starts from the Dalin Sugar Factory, passing through Datang Li, Hubei Li, and then along the culvert and provincial highway alongside the railway track, leading to San Cun Li and San Jiao Li. Though only 7 kilometers long, the route allows travelers to walk through the nostalgic remnants of the sugar factory’s historic buildings.

Located in front of Dalin Junior High School in Chiayi, Yujing Water Park is near the Dalin Sugar Factory. It features a lakeside walking path, pavilions, a dragon-shaped bridge, and beautiful water lilies, making it a great spot for families to take walks, have picnics, or relax. You can bike here for a quick rest before heading to the Dalin Sugar Factory for a visit.
