In recent years, due to the fast pace of life and the advancement of technology, people have become increasingly accustomed to going to bed late, even developing a habit known as "revenge bedtime procrastination." And yes, staying up late really takes a serious toll on your body—here are six major ways it harms your health.

1.Eye damage

From work to leisure, modern people spend over 12 hours a day in front of phones, computers, and TVs. Prolonged eye strain can lead to fatigue, feelings of pressure, numbness, and light sensitivity. Over time, it may even cause the ciliary muscle to spasm from overuse, and long-term strain can result in eye conditions.

2.Leads to obesity

Lack of sleep can lead to hormonal imbalance, which in turn increases appetite and reduces self-control. When people sleep half as much as they should, their calorie intake the next day can increase by about a quarter, thereby raising the likelihood of obesity.

3.Weakened immunity

Besides making you feel sluggish, staying up late weakens your resistance and lowers your immunity. During sleep, your body undergoes various hormonal interactions that promote the growth of immune cells. Many inflammations, allergies, and gut issues stem from immune system dysregulation.

4.Skin aging

As mentioned above, staying up late leads to a weakened immune system and hormonal imbalance, resulting in moisture loss, keratinization, and inflammation of the skin. The rate at which skin loses moisture during late-night hours is six times higher than during the day, rapidly accelerating skin aging.
