When it comes to the U.S. West Coast, many people first think of California’s blue skies and picturesque golden coastline. Let’s go on a romantic road trip with the goddess.

Slab City is an abandoned naval base built in 2006. California had once considered closing the site, but later, local social welfare organizations set up simple accommodations. The area is scattered with abandoned cars and piles of trash.

Today, East Jesus has become a simple shelter and an experimental art space where travelers can see various artworks that transform decay into magic, exploring and taking photos to their heart's content in this endless desert.

From the entrance, various abandoned vehicles are decorated with unrelated objects—like doll limbs and glass bottles. These seemingly nonsensical artworks are another expression of hippie culture.

The elderly man who resides here explains the entry rules: you don’t have to walk on the carpet to tour, and everything is okay to touch. And if you accidentally break something, no worries—just tell everyone it was already broken. Hearing that really brings a smile.
