As the name suggests, Meihua Lake (Plum Blossom Lake) is named for its shape resembling a plum blossom with five petals, plus a small island in the center like a flower’s stamen. The lake was named by the late President Chiang Ching-kuo. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, the lake surface is usually as smooth as a mirror. When a breeze blows, the water sparkles. Whether walking along the lakeside or cycling, you can enjoy the boundless serene beauty.

Located in Jiaoxi, Yilan, the Our Lady’s Mountain Villa National Trail has its entrance at the well-known Wufeng Waterfall. With an altitude difference of about 700 meters, it is slightly challenging, but the view from the summit is absolutely worth it. From the mountaintop viewing platform of Our Lady’s Mountain Villa, you get a completely unobstructed 360-degree panorama. In addition to seeing the entire Lanyang Plain, looking toward Pinglin in the back reveals layered mountain peaks, like an ink-wash landscape painting—breathtaking scenery that captivates the heart.

Taipingshan in Yilan was once a hub for forestry, with many forest railways built around the mountains to transport timber. The Jianqing Nostalgic Trail is a remnant of this forestry history. Compared to other forest railways and cable cars from the same era, most have been lost to time and overgrown in the mountains, but the preserved Jianqing Nostalgic Railway is like a time capsule.
