From Japan’s top-ranked drugstore chain “Matsumoto Kiyoshi,” Taiwan’s first tourist flagship store officially opened in Ximending on June 5.

Ximending is a hub for trends and a hotspot for Japan enthusiasts. Capitalizing on the district’s characteristics and the influx of international visitors, Matsumoto Kiyoshi spent over three years preparing its flagship store, which saw a doubling of visitor numbers on opening day.

Even before opening, the store was crowded with consumers waiting to shop. Many travelers with suitcases had already gathered in Ximending before 10 a.m., as hotel check-in times are typically around noon.

On opening day, the majority of international visitors were from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and South Korea. There were also travelers from Vietnam and Malaysia on one-week free independent tours in Taiwan. They chose to stay in Ximending for its convenient transportation and vibrant shopping scene, and most purchased Matsumoto Kiyoshi’s exclusive face masks and refreshing travel-sized items.
