Taiwan boasts many picturesque rice fields, and beyond the romantic seas of rice that captivate the heart, there are now numerous creative painted rice fields. Not only do they feature dragon boats to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, but there are also designs of Taiwan’s iconic black bear — truly delightful.

1. Miaoli Yuanli - Zongzi Love Dragon Boat Festival
Yuanli Township, which was awarded the title of Taiwan’s “Classic Town” champion, is most famous for its painted rice fields. This year, it has launched a Dragon Boat Festival-themed display called “Zongzi Love Dragon Boat Festival” featuring dragon boat patterns. It is currently at its best viewing period and is expected to remain so until July.

2. Hualien Yuli - Black Treasure Painted Rice Field
A cute Taiwanese black bear has appeared in the rice fields of Yuli, Hualien — adorable indeed. As the Taiwanese black bear "Nan’an Little Bear Sister" was recently released back into the wild in Hualien, the Taiwan Black Bear Conservation Association, in collaboration with young farmer Hsieh Ming-chien, created this charming black bear-painted rice field to celebrate the bear’s return home.

3. Yilan Dongshan Township - Beautiful Paths Among the Rice
Dubbed the “Yilan version of the Boracay Boulevard,” Sanchi Village in Dongshan Township features vast seas of rice fields along with bicycle paths winding through them. In recent years, it has hosted popular summer events. Recently, an observation platform has been set up among the rice fields, along with a theme-painted rice field for the Sanchi Village Beautiful Paths Among the Rice project.
