The story is based on the infamous 1997 kidnapping case in Hong Kong before the handover, during a time of political unrest and social instability. The “Century Gangster” Cheung Tze-keung and his crime syndicate kidnapped the eldest son of Hong Kong’s wealthiest man and demanded an astronomical ransom, throwing the entire city into panic. The film authentically recreates the tense process of the kidnapping and the police’s pursuit of the criminals, while also showcasing the Hong Kong of 20 years ago that fans fondly remember.
