Another stunning photo spot added to the list — cling to cliffs and admire towering ancient trees in the forest!

The Beidelaman Giant Tree Grove, along with Smangus and Zhenxibao, is collectively known as one of the “Three Sacred Tree Groves of Hsinchu.” It’s also the world’s lowest-altitude sacred tree grove, located within the forestry area above Shuitian Tribe in Xinxin Village, Jianshi Township, Hsinchu.

The Beidelaman Sacred Trees are situated in the mountain forests at an altitude of over 1,300 meters on Jianshi’s Bird Beak Mountain. They are Taiwan’s lowest-altitude known group of red cypress giants, only recently coming to public attention.

Bird Beak Mountain is called “Beidelaman (ptlaman)” by the Atayal people, hence the name Beidelaman Giant Tree Grove.

During the Japanese colonial period, Japanese forces entered the mountain villages of Jianshi Township, cultivated paddies here, which led to the area being named “Shuitian” (Paddy Fields). At that time, a “Shuitian police substation” was established, a police defense patrol road was built, and the cypress forest resources of Beidelaman Mountain were exploited.
