Healing rice waves and golden daylily seas – unwind in Hualien’s scenic landscapes this summer

Fuli Township is the southernmost township in Hualien, home to the famous Liushishi Mountain Scenic Area. The annual golden daylily season draws crowds of tourists every year. Take some time to visit Fuli with your family this summer.

Located in Fuli Township, Hualien, Dongli Railway Station may not offer the grandeur of ocean views, but the endless seas of rice paddies, paired with blue skies and white clouds on sunny days, create a breathtaking scene that rivals even Taiwan’s most beautiful railway station—Duoliang. The station has both a new and an old building. The old station’s tracks have been transformed into a cycling path, nestled within the valley and offering sweeping views of majestic farmlands and rolling green mountains—its vistas so expansive they feel like a magical gateway to a hidden paradise.

Vibrant and vivid, golden daylilies burst into bloom every August and September. Their breathtaking beauty draws many visitors from afar to witness the grand spectacle of golden seas of flowers. Cascading orange-yellow blooms blanket the emerald peaks, as if specks of gold dust were gently scattered across them. Travelers, be sure to catch this summer floral spectacle by heading to the Huatung Valley to admire the beauty of the daylilies.

Rice is the primary crop in Fuli Township, while fields of rapeseed flowers are its most beautiful byproduct. After the autumn harvest, farmers sow rapeseed in fallow fields as green manure for the next rice crop. When the rapeseed blossoms, it’s usually the depths of winter when most things lie dormant—but these golden little flowers choose this time to bloom, draping Fuli’s fields in their most stunning colorful coat.

Fuli is situated along the upper reaches of the Shoufeng River, where numerous mountain streams provide a year-round abundance of water. The river is also home to many fish, making it perfect for leisure fishing. Fishing here not only brings joy but also offers serene views of the beautiful countryside. Along the river, there are two lovely riverside parks—the Turtle Creek and Shoufeng River Riverside Parks—ideal for relaxation and unwinding.
