Second wave of massive anti-extradition protests in Hong Kong as Lion Rock features giant "Protect Hong Kong" banner

Latest:Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam issued a 301-word statement, in which apart from offering an apology, she also expressed that she had heard the voice of the people, suspended work related to the extradition bill, and stated that the Chief Executive would adopt a more humble attitude toward criticism and strive for improvement. The anti-extradition bill protests can thus be said to have reached a phased conclusion and victory. However, calls for Carrie Lam’s resignation continue. There are also concerns among the public about whether the legislative amendment process will be restarted.

Since Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam cited Taiwan as the main reason for suspending the amendments to the extradition bill, many were surprised. During this period, many Hong Kong students in Taiwan have independently initiated petitions and rallies, and numerous Taiwanese citizens have also shown support. At 2:00 PM on June 16, a rally organized by groups including National Taiwan University was held at the Legislative Yuan in Taipei. Organizers announced that around 10,000 people had gathered on-site to show support for Hong Kong. They also called for Taiwan not to compromise its status of freedom and human rights due to this or similar legislation. On June 23, there will be related rallies and marches demanding “Opposition to Pro-China Media.”

在旅游警示的部分，除了英国、加拿大已对香港发出旅游警示，都是等级较低的提醒：采取正常的安全防范，无论如何赴港都需特别注意金钟、夏悫道、添马公园及香港中区-总部建筑群这些区域。
